The
baby bed is a place where your child will spend most of their time, from the first day they are born to the first year. A safe and comfortable baby bed will give your child a good night's sleep. It will also protect them from germs and the risk of falls and other accidents while they are asleep.
It is important that your baby sleeps on their back rather than their tummy or side, until they are one year old. This reduces the risk of SIDS. Don't use pillows, quilts or stuffed toys in the bed as these can be suffocating. If you use a swaddle, make sure they aren't too tight and that their arms can move freely. If you use a pacifier, don't force them to take it as this can cause them to choke.
Don't keep the baby in a carrier, sling, car seat or stroller to sleep as they can be trapped or strangled. Don't use baby sleep positioners (also called nests or anti-roll pillows).
