What is the necessity of baby car seats?

1. Legal mandatory requirement: the prevailing regulations in most countries around the world
According to Article 18 of China's revised Law on the Protection of Minors in 2021, guardians are required to "take measures such as equipping child safety seats to prevent minors from being injured in traffic accidents". Countries such as the United States, the European Union, and Japan have included the use of Baby Car Seats in their traffic regulations, and violators face high fines and even criminal liability. The act of not using safety seats has escalated from a moral issue to a legal violation.

2. Survival probability gap: comparison of life and death data in accidents
According to research by the World Health Organization (WHO), the proper use of Baby Car Seats can reduce infant traffic accident mortality rates by 71% and serious injury rates by 67%. In contrast, a baby held only by an adult will withstand an impact force of 30 times their own weight (about 300-400 kilograms) when colliding at a speed of 50km/h, which is equivalent to falling from the third floor, and human muscles cannot fix the baby at all.

3. The special fragility of infant body structure
The proportion of the baby's head to body weight is 25% (only 6% for adults), and the neck muscles and bones are not fully developed, unable to withstand the inertial force during sudden braking or collision. Baby Car Seats provide targeted protection through the following design:

Five point safety belt system: evenly distribute impact force to the shoulders, hips, and hips to avoid instantaneous compression of the spine;
Side collision avoidance module: absorbs energy from rollover or side impact, reducing the amplitude of head swing;
Rear Facing: For infants under 15 months old, use the seat back to distribute back pressure and reduce the risk of neck strain.

4. Adult cognitive misconceptions and behavioral risks
The fallacy of "short distance without seat": 76% of infant traffic accidents occur within 8 kilometers of home;
The lethality of airbags: If a baby who does not use Baby Car Seats sits in the passenger seat, the impact force of airbag deployment can directly cause skull fractures;
The hidden danger of incorrect installation: A survey shows that over 60% of households have their seats not securely fastened due to not reading the instruction manual, weakening the protective effect.

5. International certification standards and scientific verification
Compliant Baby Car Seats must undergo rigorous testing:
EU ECE R-44/04 or R-129 (i-Size): Simulate frontal/side collision at a speed of 50km/h;
FMVSS 213: Material Stability Testing in High/Low Temperature Environments in the United States;
China 3C certification: Mandatory requirements for anti overturning, flame retardancy and other indicators. These standards ensure that the seat can maintain structural integrity under extreme conditions, while ordinary car seat belts or baby carrying behaviors cannot achieve the same level of protection.
